Also, one of the first music videos I ever saw was for the Police's "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da" on OTA TV as a kid. Instantly fell in love with the song. KQRS used to have a late night TV program where they would show music videos in the nascent days of music videos.

Music has impacted me in very similar ways. From literature to politics to just how other people live their lives, a lot of times it was something I heard from the music I was listening to as a younger person that got me to look further into whatever the subject was.

A good read. Thanks.

Our daughter is now a senior in college. Her first concert ever, when she was perhaps in middle school, was The Police reunion tour, at the Red Rocks Ampitheatre. At the time, she had no idea how special that was.

A few lesser known Sting albums of note:

“A Winter’s Night” - not really a holiday album - more of a winter’s solstice album.

“All This Time” - a mini-concert at Sting’s villa in Italy. He assembled a full compliment of world class musicians, including Chris Botti and Christian McBride. This was on the eve of 9/11.

What's neat about your story is that through the Police (there some nuggets there too) and his solo career he has expanded many a mind while folks think they just listening to music. Very clever, Mr. Sumner, very clever.

For me an odd combination of Coldplay, Queen, Jack Johnson and Eminem provided the soundtrack to my later years a s a small kid and subsequently teenager (in Brasil and then the UK). The first three were favourites of my dad and even to this day they transport me back to my childhood. Eminem brought a tinge of reality to me-that not all life was rosy and sweet and that anger, suffering and violence did exist. Moreover he gave me a voice during my years shut away in boarding school. As I guess is the case with everyone, music has a wonderful, transformative and educational quality that sneaks past our conscious and manages to work its magic even without our noticing-PS "Every breath you take" is a centrepiece on my party playlist
