My wife and I are going camping/white water rafting in WV next weekend. This story really makes me wish we were driving an old Land Rover there. Awesome read!
I remember watching "Long Way Round" for the first time because of the motorcycles...and then watching it again and again because of the human interaction and what happened 'off the bike'. Great read thanks for posting.
Sounds like some trips I’ve taken through the hill country in Texas on my Norton Commando! Old British vehicles have a charisma that invites conversation, and it’s hard to fill up a fuel tank without hearing about long gone Triumphs and Vincent Black Shadows. Traveling by obsolete vehicle on two lane roads may be impractical, but the fun stuff always seems to be.

Good read! And you’re correct about old cars. Reminded me of ‘Northwest by Westfield’, written by another Anglophile, Peter Egan.

The story made me hopeful for the future of the US. Thanks for renewing my faith.
Sounds like a proper good time! To the next one 🍻
