A Very Long Surface Interval
Dive log, 2025: Quality, not quantity
In the unique lingo of scuba diving, a “surface interval” is the number of hours spent, as the name suggests, at the surface, not diving. If you’re diving repeatedly on a day or over a series of days, these intervals allow the body to “off-gas” excess nitrogen built up while breathing compressed air. But in my case, this year, my surface intervals were measured in months, not minutes and hours. This might have been the year in which I’ve dived the least, since I started diving back in 2007. Still, I had some spectacular experiences this year, and got to dive with some special watches as well. Without further ado, here’s my dive log for 2025.
